Competition is over !!

The robotics competition is now over and we would like to thank everyone who came to Jacob Javitis Center and supported us. Also, we now have the display of the robot and our trophies in the first floor. We won best website award and we are very happy of that and proud of ourselves. Overall the competition was fun and exciting even though we didnt get to do the chicken dance.

Driving Boot Camp Started!!

After much programming from Kevin Chan and some instructions from Jefferson Abreu we got the programming and calibrated controller working like never before. This thing could move and fly across the makeshift arena. On this day our robot had another little “mishap” during test driving and practice the bolts on the wheel took some good banging and fell off and to top it all off, one of the prongs on the fork broke off after a head-on collision with a rubber mat at .05 mph. We fixed it and then called it a day.

Working out "Kinks" And Getting Accustomed To The Controllers.

Our robot is performing well considering the horribly calibrated controllers. Our robot had a huge accident as the lack of calibration cause a sudden change in direction and speed and went back first into a brick wall at full speed. The chassis welds broke and the chassis was nearly holding on. After a couple of welds, some brackets made from scrap metal and nuts and bolts and a little addition to the chassis (an under plate in case anything where to come up and harm the all important electronics) and the robot was better then ever not including the controllers.

Completion of Electronics and Robot

The electronics are finally built onto a polycarbonate and mounted on our finished robot. Jefferson Abreu and John Piedrahita spent the day working on the controllers and Kevin Chan and Adrian Ciuperca worked all day fully concentrated on the programming. With the coaxing of Mr. Poganik the team worked on tidying up the work lab and dusting off the robot, tightening nuts and bolts, tightening zip-ties and making extra pieces for the robot for during the competition. We also got the piston and the pneumatic systems to work flawless considering that we will be practicing with old controllers.

Technotics Forum is Up and Running

Jeff has completed our very own Forum. We will be using this Forum to communicate ideas about team development and the progress on the Summer Program. We are planning a team meeting very soon. During this meeting we hope to teach other team members the full capabilities of the Forum. Before then, feel free to make a username and post!

Team Members Recruited for Rebuilding

So far Jefferson Maldonado, Mary Rizaldo, and Clark Monzon have been recruited into Rebuilding (2007 Summer Program). Jefferson has already taken the arduous task of reconstructing Team 1635’s website. With her organizational skills and dedication, Mary has been positioned as 1635’s Manager. Her tasks will include overseeing sub teams, which are still yet to be formed. Furthermore, Mary will be reporting directly to Mentors on the status of each subdivision (e.g. web design, animation, mechanics, pneumatics, electronics, fundraising, etc.) Clark, on the other hand, is just beginning his adventure into the animation realm as he runs through the innumerous 3ds Max tutorials which are available online.

Rebuilding: Summer Program to Begin

With an unsuccessful 2007 season, Team 1635 is undergoing a major overhaul. Currently, Maruf Ali, is organizing a summer program which will run through the months of July and August. Rebuilding, the name of this year’s summer program aims to gather ambitious students from Newtown High School and spread the message of FIRST. Students will be taught the fundamental values of FIRST, communication skills, vital engineering design techniques, necessary web design abilities, and basic animation skills. Furthermore, if funds are sufficient, Rebuilding hopes to redesign Room B2 at Newtown High School aka the Robotics Lab.
